Why I made this guide

Ericeira came into my life when I was small. First it was family trips with my parents: long lunches in the seafood restaurants and afternoons on the beach below the old town.

As I grew up it became something else: a place of calm, of surf, of friends and of switching off. It is where I go to clear my head, and it is the place I recommend most often to people visiting Portugal.

Over the years I kept giving the same advice to friends and colleagues from abroad: which beach suits which day, where to eat, how to get there without a car. This site puts that advice in one place, in English, Portuguese, French and Spanish.

Who is behind it

Ericeira Travel is written and maintained by me, João Rodrigues. Professionally I am a trainer and partner at Better Skills (better-skills.com), a Portuguese training and certification company. This guide is a personal project.

How I keep it honest

No restaurant, surf school or hotel has paid to appear here. The site is free to use and is funded by advertising (Google AdSense), which never influences what I recommend.

Prices, timetables and openings change, especially buses and seasonal services, so confirm with the operators before you rely on a detail. For buses, check Carris Metropolitana; for sea conditions and warnings, IPMA; for local services, the Câmara Municipal de Mafra.
