How long in Ericeira?

Whether you have an afternoon away from Lisbon or a full week, here is how to spend your time well. Mix and match, the town is small and everything is close.

Ericeira day trip from Lisbon

A relaxed full day: the old town, a beach, fresh seafood and a clifftop sunset, easily done by car or bus from Lisbon.

Late morning
Arrive and wander the white-and-tiled old town, the Praça da República and the clifftop Largo das Ribas over the harbour.
Lunch
Grilled fish or arroz de marisco at a seafood table, then a pastel de nata for dessert.
Afternoon
Down to Praia dos Pescadores or Praia do Sul for a swim, or up to the Miradouro at Ribeira d’Ilhas to watch the surfers.
Sunset
A drink on the clifftop boulevard as the sun drops into the Atlantic before heading back to Lisbon.

2–3 days

A weekend in Ericeira

Two or three days to mix surf or beach time with the town, the food scene and one trip out to Mafra or Sintra.

Day 1
Settle in, learn the town, and take a first surf lesson at Foz do Lizandro or a swim at Praia dos Pescadores.
Day 2
A full beach-and-surf day, working south to São Julião or north to watch the Reserve’s reefs, with seafood in the evening.
Day 3
Drive out to the UNESCO palace at Mafra, or push on to Sintra, before a final beach stop on the way back.

One week in Ericeira

A full week to progress your surfing, work through the beaches and food, and explore the wider coast at an easy pace.

Days 1–2
Find your feet in town and start a surf course at a beginner-friendly beach.
Days 3–4
Work along the coast, the southern beaches one day, the northern surf spots the next.
Days 5–6
Day trips: Mafra and Sintra inland, or Peniche and the Berlengas islands up the coast.
Day 7
A slow last day: a favourite beach, a long seafood lunch and one more sunset.
