This is the page to check before you head out. It brings together the live webcams for the Ericeira surf coast, the forecast tools that are actually reliable, and a short routine for reading conditions, so you arrive at the right spot instead of guessing from the car park.
A quick, honest note: we do not host any of these cameras. They belong to Beachcam and Surftotal, and every link below opens on their own site. What we add is the local context, which cam to check for which conditions, and which of our spot guides it pairs with.

The benchmark camera for the Reserve, pointed at the long right-hand point that hosts the contests. Read the crowd spread along the point, the size of the sets, and whether the wind is smoothing the face or putting texture on it. If it looks clean and lined up here, the north is working.
Beachcam's Ericeira view looks over the northern reefs around Pedra Branca and the Reef. Use it to gauge size and power on the heavier waves before you commit, and to see how much a west wind is chopping up the exposed reefs.
The long beach south of town, and a good option when the north is crowded or blown out. Check for a workable peak and how busy the sand is. It is more exposed, so it often holds size when the sheltered spots go flat.
The beginner check. This river-mouth beach is where most schools run their lessons, so the cam tells you quickly whether the whitewater is gentle and the beach manageable, or whether it is too big and messy for a first session.
Surftotal's own camera and report for Ribeira d'Ilhas, a useful second angle when you want to cross-check Beachcam. It pairs the live view with a short conditions read-out for the spot.
Three tools worth trusting, each best for something different.
Start with a camera, not a forecast. Thirty seconds on the Ribeira d’Ilhas cam tells you what no forecast can: how many people are already out, and whether the wind is smoothing the face or chopping it up.
Then open a forecast for the numbers behind the picture. Windguru and Surf-forecast give you swell height, period and direction, and the wind that will make or break the session. A long period means more power than the height alone suggests.
Match that against the spot. Every wave here has its own tide and wind preferences, listed on our surf pages. A swell that is perfect for Ribeira d’Ilhas can be unrideable on the shallow reefs, so read the spot before you drive.
Always have a backup. If the north is too big or too crowded, drop south to São Julião or Foz do Lizandro; if a beach break is a mess, the point may be cleaner. The cams let you check both before you leave the house.
And check the sea warning. When IPMA posts an agitação marítima alert, the ocean is bigger and more dangerous than a sunny car park suggests. Respect it, especially on the exposed reefs.

Foz do Lizandro. It is the gentle river-mouth beach where most surf schools teach, so its Beachcam view is the clearest read on whether the whitewater is manageable for a first session.
Roughly 14 to 18°C through the year, coldest in late winter and warmest in late summer. Pack a 3/2 wetsuit for the warm months and a 4/3 for the rest; the live conditions panel above shows the current sea temperature.
Watch a full set on the cam before you commit, not just one wave, and check the swell period on a forecast, since a long period packs far more power. If IPMA has a sea warning in effect, treat it as a day to watch rather than surf unless you are experienced.
