Ericeira's best beginner wave, a forgiving beach break at a river mouth, lined with surf schools and cafés.
Where the River Lizandro meets the sea, sandbars line up for some three hundred metres to create soft, multi-peak A-frames. It is the obvious choice for your first lessons, and the long sandy beach makes it a fine day out even if you never get wet.
A handful of surf schools and a camp sit on the villa-dotted hillside above. It is a five-minute drive or a forty-minute walk south of the centre, and there is parking near the bridge.
As the swell grows the rivermouth peaks get faster and more rewarding for intermediates, so it scales nicely with your ability.
