The most central beach, with peaks for mixed abilities right below the old town and the Vila Galé.
Praia do Sul (also called Baleia) is the open bay right below the old town, the easiest wave to reach on foot. Sand and rock combine to throw up peaks across a range of sizes, with rides up to a hundred metres on the right day.
It gets some shelter from north-west wind, which can make it surfable when exposed spots are messy. A mix of levels share the water here, so it is a sociable, accessible option for a quick session.
The clifftop boulevard above gives one of the best sunset views in town.
